English Addict 19 – Live Lesson – Chat & Learn with Others – Dull Boring Words – Wed 18th Dec 2019

things are getting interesting it
is just one week to go before Christmas arrives are you excited I hope so
welcome to English addict live from the United Kingdom hmm I’ve had my cup of coffee and I’m
ready to go hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today are
you ok I hope so are you happy are you really
happy I hope you are happy today because Christmas is on the way you better watch
out you better not cry you better be good I’m telling you why because Santa
Claus is coming to town Santa is on his way just a week to go before Christmas
I’m very excited I am like a big kid at this time of year wondering what his
santa claus going to bring for me this year I wonder have I been good or bad
during 2019 that’s the big question I suppose the other thing I should mention
as well is we are halfway through the week already
I don’t know why this week is going by so quickly
yes it’s Wednesday I was drinking some water then and I
almost choked on it that’s not very good as it so here we go then we are
approaching Christmas a week away just another week to go the big question is
will I be with you on Christmas Day now I know normally I’m with you on
Wednesday in fact these are the days when you can watch me on YouTube Sunday
Wednesday and Friday 2 p.m. UK time every week but the big question is will
I be with you next Wednesday because it will be Christmas Day a week from today
also it’s worth mentioning that I may or may not be with you on the first day of
2020 ooh because that is also Wednesday so we will see what happens with that
hello to the live chat hi live chat nice to see you here as well hello to Quang
Quang Tran guess what congratulations and a big hello to you because you are
first on today’s live chat I can hardly contain my excitement
because I’m excited that’s why we all have to be excited about something
sometimes of course things are not exciting today we are talking about
things that might not be exciting they might not be interesting to you you
might find something uninteresting so we will be talking about words and phrases
connected to not being interested in something I hope you are interested in
today’s livestream because I’m here with you today live from the United Kingdom
let’s have a look outside the window shall we oh it’s a strange one today
this morning it was very misty very foggy outside the window in fact I can
show you now what it looked like this morning so there is the view right now
however this is the view that greeted me this morning and there it was this
morning so the same view but looking out of the window when I first woke up this
morning it was very foggy we are having some really weird weather it doesn’t
feel like winter and it certainly doesn’t feel as if Christmas is arriving
next week so I don’t know what’s going on at the moment the weather is very
strange apparently the that over the next few days it’s going to get very
warm in fact I think it will be around 14 maybe even 15 degrees this weekend so some very strange weather and this is the view right now so that’s what you
can see out the window at this very moment in time and it doesn’t look too
bad it is rather mild very damp but
apparently it’s going to be really warm this week very strange isn’t it
and also lots of rain as well I’m afraid oh dear
I was looking forward to going out this weekend for a lovely pre-christmas walk
unfortunately it looks as if it’s going to be very wet this weekend what is the
weather like where you are now I know in some parts of the world the weather can
be very hot very cold please think about those in Australia at the
moment who are suffering from extreme heat in certain parts of Australia at
the moment it is 46 nearly 47 degrees at the moment one of my friends actually
lives in Australia so I hope he is staying cool so it’s very warm in
Australia however here in the UK it is not so warm even though it still feels
very mild hello also to Zoran on the live chat
nice to see you here today as well I’m so excited because Christmas is just a
week away so many things happening this week I’m very busy tonight I’m going out
to see one of my friends in fact one of our friends so tonight we’re going over
to Wolverhampton mr. Duncan and I’m going to see one of our friends we will
be having a lovely Chinese meal tonight in Wolverhampton and then this weekend
we’re catching up with some friends we haven’t seen for a long time on Friday
as well so a lot of socializing taking place this week which i think is usual
it’s normal for this time of year I think
hello also to Julie hello sweetness Alamgir my roots also Rolfie hi everyone
hi mr. Duncan I hope everyone is having an amazing day it’s not too bad I have
my pen and paper ready to get this wonderful lesson oh very nice Thank you
very much yes if you are watching and you are
interested in learning new words it is useful to have maybe a piece of paper
and a pen don’t forget also it’s worth mentioning that you can also find
captions as well so you can press C on your keyboard and you will actually get
live captions can you believe it so at the moment you can actually get live
captions don’t forget there is a slight delay because the captions don’t know
what I’m going to say so there is always a slight delay between what I say and
what the captions show so you can have captions live subtitles so many nice
things happening today not least of all the fact that I’m really excited about
Christmas we will be with you on Sunday mr. Steve will be joining us on Sunday
because it will be the final livestream before Christmas this Sunday so I hope
you will join me also of course I’m here on Friday too so don’t forget Friday as
well I am with you on Friday at the usual time of 2 p.m. but also next
Sunday it is our pre Christmas live extravaganza and mr. Steve will be
joining us next week hello also to Hiroko nice to see you here again today
cab duel hello kappa doll hello also to Julie ts hello to UTS nice
to see you as well Kristina when will you show us your beautiful Christmas
tree well it won’t be today not today I don’t want to do it too early we will be
taking a look at something we always think about it this time of year here in
the UK and that is snow so I will be talking about words and phrases
connected to snow and I will also be showing you some lovely views of what it
looks like when we have snow even though at the moment it would appear that we
are having no snow at this time of year in 2019
no snow is on the way we’ve had nan and it looks as if we’re not going to get
any because it’s so warm here new when hello new when watching in Vietnam hello
also – Luis hello – Luis Mendez hello to you thanks for joining me he’s an
interesting phrase and this is something I’m going to mention briefly you might
want to talk about it more you might not want to talk about it at all what does
it mean when you take something to heart when you take something to heart
do you ever do this do you ever take something to heart this expression is an
interesting one and it concerns our emotions our human emotions if you take
something to heart it means you take it personally you think something is
concerning just you on a very deep level so maybe something that you take to
heart is something that you feel insulted by or maybe something that you
feel upset by so maybe a person makes a comment maybe they are trying to offer
some advice to you but you take it to heart
you take something to heart we can also say you take it to heart so this means
that you take it very personally even though the thing that was said or done
was not meant to be offensive so maybe a comment that
someone made or maybe something that a person did maybe it was meaningless
however you take it to heart you take it too seriously you take it very
personally and I think we are all capable of doing this sometimes
especially if we are in a bad mood so sometimes if we’re feeling if we are
feeling a little down a little unhappy we might take it to heart
we might take something that is said something very innocent something that
is not meant to be offensive but we take it to heart because we believe that it
is something that is against us or something that is insulting so what
about you do you sometimes feel very sensitive about what people say or do do
you sometimes take something to heart an interesting expression and I’m always
interested in these expressions and words that are connected to the way we
behave and act towards each other they are very fascinating Rosa hello rose
Cecilia is here also Thomas hello to everyone from the Czech Republic hello
to you as well hello pal Miro Roenick hello also Julie hello Alamgir again
hello chin Tana hello chin tan I don’t
recognize your name is it your first time here on the live chat
I wonder hello also to Sally a big hello from Syria mr. Duncan hello to Syria and
I hope you are safe and well today palmyra again palmyra has to go because
I have to leave soon because I am going to attend
a little party for my library club so greetings to all the people see you
later pal Mira and don’t forget you can watch this all over again we are looking
at words to do with snow and also words to describe feeling bored so if you ever
find yourself feeling bored about something or because of something then
there are many ways of expressing this word something that is not interesting
something that you don’t have any interest in you might be bored by it so
we will look at that a little bit later on here’s another interesting phrase and
again this is all to do with human behavior what is the difference between
something that is in your mind and something that is on your mind so what
are the differences between these phrases in your mind on your mind if
something is in your mind it means your brain is actually doing something it is
something that is in your mind it is something that is stored in there so
maybe you are remembering something that is in your mind something that is in
your mind it is actually a memory that is stored in your mind so if you have
something in your mind it means it is there as a memory something that you
have remembered something that is stored as a memory it is in your mind
however when we talk about on your mind you might have something on your mind
this is different it has a different meaning to have something on your mind
is something that is bothering you something that is worrying you
a thing that is causing you some concern or worry something is on your mind maybe
you are thinking about a person may be a person that you haven’t heard from for a
long time that person is on your mind
something is worrying you something is troubling you something is on your mind
and again just like earlier I’m sure we all have things on our minds it might be
something trivial it might be something small and insignificant but something
that is on your mind might be something that you are worried about something you
are concerned about something you might not be looking forward to of course we
can also have nice things that are on your mind you might have something
exciting approaching so it will be on your mind
maybe you feel so excited you can’t sleep at night because the thing that is
about to happen is on your mind and of course in a negative sense something
that you are not looking forward to can be on your mind so quite often we will
use this in a negative way something that is on your mind if a person looks
worried you might see your friend and he or she looks a little worried a little
anxious about something you might ask them what is on your mind
what’s on your mind you look troubled you look worried you look as if you have
something on your mind and as I said earlier if you have something in your
mind it is something that is there all the time something that is in your mind
of course we can also say that something is in your head or just in your head
that is something that is imagined or not real so a person might be in the
house at night alone and they can hear strange noises in the house even though
they know that no one else is in the house you might tell your friend the
next day and they might say don’t worry it’s all in your mind something in your
mind is something that you are imagining or thinking about something that is in
your mind it is all in your mind or something that is there permanently such
as a memory it’s also in your mind so I hope that explains some more meanings of
two very common phrases we are going to have a look at one of my English lessons
in a moment there are lots of English lessons on my youtube channel however
just in case you want to get in touch with me you can send me an email
I’ve had some lovely emails this week concerning my recent live streams also
asking if they can send a Christmas card to my home address well you can always
send something through my email address and of course you can follow me on
Facebook as well hmm so there it is there is no excuse
for not knowing for not knowing my email address and also my Facebook page and if
you want to make a donation if you want to send a little Christmas treat to help
my work continue through 2020 I have lots of things going on at the moment
I’m currently building a website so if you have been watching over the past few
weeks you will know that I am going to migrate my homepage which has always
been YouTube so I will be creating a new website which will be separate from
YouTube that will be coming next year and of course next year is only thirteen
days away we are just 13 days away from 2020 hello Bianca
hello also to Sally again christelle says thank you very much for your
explanations that is okay no problem Sally says mr. Duncan I have a special
diary for your lessons that is a great idea I happen to know that ts also
writes down lots of notes concerning my English lessons as well so a lot of
people a lot of people do make notes write things down and of course when you
watch this lesson you can write down things that you see on the captions
don’t forget you can get the live captions right now if you are watching
live you can it’s true so now it’s time to take a look at one of my youtube
videos this is an edited version of a lesson I made many years ago way back in
2010 and this particular lesson is all about one of my favorite moments
of winter in the lesson you are about to see we are going to take a look at the
English snow spring is the time for new life to grow summer is when we find
places to go autumn or fall turns the leaves into gold winter the season for
catching a cold hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today
are you okay I hope so are you happy I hope so
today I’m going on an English winter wonderland walk and you are very welcome
to join me as you can see we are having a very white winter here in England I
love the winter time as it presents such a sharp visual contrast to the other
seasons especially when winter looks like this for those who live in
constantly hot and dry countries experiencing snowfall is something which
can only be imagined although over recent years some countries that never
usually get any snow have actually had it winter is a difficult time for small
animals the icy conditions mean that both food and water becomes scarce and
hard to find it is a sad fact that many small animals die during a very cold
winter most at-risk are small birds although this Blackbird seems to be
doing all right feasting on what is left of my Christmas
turkey Oh goodbye mr. blackbird hmm
I really love eating that so much look at this poor thrush its feet are so
cold it has to stand on one leg mmm there’s plenty of food to be found under
the snow as this Blackbird and Sparrow are finding out when the snow falls fast and thick we
call it heavy snow when the snow is falling during a strong windstorm we
call this a blizzard when snow is falling gently and the flakes are small
we call this light snow sometimes the snow does not fall completely frozen it
melts away very easily this type of snow is called sleet there can be very few natural sights
more impressive than a blanket of snow covering the landscape the feeling of
walking out on a snowy day really does capture the senses all the sounds which
are normally around you disappear as the snow absorbs them the feeling of walking on fresh snow is
quite unique the distinctive crunch beneath your feet
as you walk along completes this amazing winter experience look at me I’m building a snowman it is
fun to play in the snow and I still remember as a child how excited I felt
when I opened my bedroom curtains after a night of snowfall to see a white
winter blanket covering all of the roads and rooftops come to think of it I still
get excited about it now the winter season in the UK can vary
from year to year sometimes the winter climate is not so
cold we call this a mild winter sometimes the winter weather brings with
it lots of snow and freezing temperatures we call this a hard winter
or harsh winter I hope you enjoyed that one of my very
early lessons going way back to 2010 you better watch out you better be good
you better be good because I’m telling you why mr. Duncan is live on youtube
today baby hi everybody
I hope you are okay we haven’t had any snow for those who are wondering we’ve
had no snow at all in fact quite the opposite
it is wet it is misty and over the next few days it’s going to get very warm
here in the UK I think it might have something to do with global warming
I think it might I hope you enjoyed that lesson made many many years ago nine
years ago I made that lesson I hope you weren’t too bored by that lesson so here
are some words now that I’m going to show you to be bored
something is boring boredom so let’s take a look at these words one by one
shall we bored is the feeling of being an
interested in something so maybe you feel bored maybe you are doing something
that takes a long time maybe you are looking at a movie or a TV show and it
isn’t very interesting to watch you might feel bored you feel bored by
something so that thing you are watching the thing you are doing the thing you
are actively involved in isn’t really very interesting you don’t find it
interesting it makes you feel bored and the thing you are doing the thing you
are watching is boring so both of these words are adjectives
however this one comes from the person who is feeling the sensation of
disinterest the thing that the person is doing is boring so even though these two
are adjectives many people get these mixed up they get them the wrong way
around so you can be bored by something bored with something
the thing is boring a boring lesson a boring film a boring walk a boring
conversation you feel bored by the boring thing so a lot of people get
these mixed up so they might say I never feel boring with you what you should say
is I never feel bored with you so that refers to your feeling that refers to
the thing that you are bored with or bored by you feel bored
the thing is boring it is not interesting and then we have the noun
the noun form which is boredom so boredom expresses that feeling it is the
noun that shows the state of being bored something that makes you feel bored is
boring you feel boredom and that is the noun so bored is an adjective
boring also an adjective boredom is the noun however there are many words as
well that can be used to express this hello to Belarusian hi Belarusian I
didn’t see you on the live chat maybe you are late I don’t know
I’ve been walking in the sunshine doing some shopping Oh have you been buying
some gifts mmm maybe perhaps you are buying something nice for your patients
maybe you will give all of your patients a new toothbrush to remind them to clean
their teeth three times a day that’s what they have to do ascend
I always feel bored by myself so I am I am boring
I hate boredom so yes you can feel bored something is boring we might describe a
person as boring so maybe you meet someone in the street and all they do is
talk and talk about themselves for a very long time they are a boring person
they have nothing interesting to say some people say that I’m boring I’m not
sure about that rakesh says your boredom is killing you
yes you can say that you are bored to death oh this new movie that I went to
see last night the new Star Wars movie it is so boring I felt bored watching it
not really I haven’t seen it yet I haven’t seen the new Star Wars film yet
but apparently the reviews for the new Star Wars film their rise of Skywalker
where oh wait there the rise of sky use the force turn to the dark side of
the force sorry about that Noemi when a serious in
Christmas is like hell because we will eat a lot of European food that doesn’t
sound like hell to me that sounds like heaven hello hi Lee Kwang hello also to
Anna mr. Denker and you never you never make us feel bored because your live
streams aren’t boring thank you very much for that there are many words you
can use when we talk about feeling boredom tedious something that is
tedious something that is not interesting to do or to watch something
that is going on for a long time something that seems to be going on
forever oh I went to work yesterday and I had such a horrible day there was
nothing to do it was a very tedious day so something that is tedious something
that makes you feel bored something that goes on for a very long time and you
have no interest in it it is tedious Irene says mr. Duncan you are never
boredom what you should say there is mr. Duncan you are never boring so we are
talking about the description of how something appears which is an adjective
so mr. Duncan you are never boring so boredom is the noun tedious something
that goes on for a very long time something that seems to go so slowly
maybe if you are at work and you really can’t wait to go home the day at work
might seem very tedious you can have a tedious day as an adjective at work
tedious means what mr. Duncan I don’t know well as I just said tedious means
boring something that takes a long time to do something that you are not
interested in it is very tedious maybe you have to stand in a queue or a long
line of people standing outside in the freezing cold waiting to go in can be
very tedious it takes a long time you have to wait for such a long time it is
so tedious apparently it is very warm let me just have a look I’ve missed that
one no it’s gone oh no Emmy says I said that where I am is hot it is like hell
oh I see so yes you can describe a hot place as hot as hell it’s hot as hell
here something can also be as cold as ice if it is the opposite mr. Duncan
will you go to see the new Star Wars movie I remember that you have your
favourite robot there yes I will see it but I might not go to the cinema I don’t
like going to the cinema I just find it a very annoying experience so there are
always people talking and playing on their phones and eating food making lots
of noise so I don’t really like going to the cinema to be honest so I might way
until the new Star Wars film is actually available on well maybe on Amazon I will
watch it on there in the comfort and peace of my house a job can be very
tedious yes it can so maybe if you do a job and you’re not very interested in
the job or maybe if you work in a place where there isn’t much work to do so
maybe you have to go to work maybe you are working in an office and you have
nothing to do you have to sit there and wait for something to happen it can feel
very tedious Noemi says doing the housework is
tedious I agree with you we have got to clean the house because we have a
special guest coming to stay just after Christmas so yes we have to do a lot of
tedious chores over the next few days something can also be Dell if something
is dull it is uninteresting it does not interest you it is not of interest
something is dull tedious boring it is not interesting so maybe you have a job
that isn’t very interesting maybe you have to spend all day sitting in an
office maybe you have to do the same job over and over again maybe you have to do
something that you don’t want to do at all so instantly you will find it dull I
don’t like doing the housework I don’t like doing the house chores I don’t like
it I don’t like doing any of those things I find it very dull dull tedious
boring thank you Anna thank you also Erick having the
same wife or husband for many years is tedious I think Eric is asking a
question there is it some people who have been in a relationship for many
years some people who have been together so maybe a husband and wife maybe
they’ve been married for a very long time 10 20 30 40 years maybe they might
find that their relationship is not as exciting as it used to be but I think
that’s normal I think in any relationship if you are together with
another person for a long time quite often you can run out of things to say
or you can run out of things to do so you might both become bored I think so
yes it can happen but there are ways to keep your relationship fresh and
exciting always try new things it also helps if you have things in common so
maybe in a relationship you both share things that you enjoy I think so mirela
you are very funny thank you very much I hope you were telling me that mr. Duncan
you think we think you are very funny thank you very much for your vote of
confidence there that’s very kind of you hello a man studying is very boring oh I
see so the three words with the same way to use and the meaning right mr. Duncan
so all of these refer to the same thing that is your feeling that is how you
feel towards something and that is the noun that describes that feeling
another thing that can be used to describe something that is not
interesting something might be uninspiring if something is uninspiring
it means it is not interesting it doesn’t make you feel excited you are
not interested in that particular thing it is urn inspiring maybe you read a
book and halfway through the book you get very bored with it because it is
uninspiring you don’t feel any emotion from the story you don’t feel involved
with the story it is urn inspiring so an inspiring can
mean something that has no effect on your emotions maybe something that
doesn’t make you feel excited maybe something that is tedious or boring is
an inspiring I found the new Star Wars film to be uninspiring maybe the things
you saw in the movie have been done before you are amazing mr. Duncan Thank You
Hasan that’s very kind of you Kevin Cheung hello Kevin Cheng watching
today I’m a huge fan of mr. Duncan thank you very much that’s so kind of you
hanane also says hello on the live chat thanks a lot we are talking about words
and phrases that can be described as boring or maybe something that describes
the feeling of being bored or something that gives you or brings about the
feeling of boredom here’s an interesting one maybe you don’t know this word it
might be the first time that you’ve seen this way
here it is lackluster lackluster lackluster it’s an interesting word if
something is tedious or boring something that is flat and an interesting
something that does not make you feel excited it makes you feel the opposite
it makes you feel bored and sleepy you might describe it as lackluster
lackluster or lack lust some people say like lust some people say lackluster so
if it lacks luster it means it is not shiny it is not interesting
something is dull something is an interesting something is boring it makes
you feel bored it is lackluster maybe you go to a show
maybe a concert to see your favorite musician but unfortunately there aren’t
many people there watching it so the atmosphere is very dull and because of
that the whole event seems lackluster it’s tedious boring dull uninteresting mr. Duncan is not a bore now that’s a
very interesting word so the word bore means a person who is boring once again
so that it that can also be used as a noun
here’s a good one monotonous I like this one this is a nice one you can really
get your mouth around this word monotonous I hope you can hear that
clearly monotonous something that is an interesting something that is boring
something that makes you feel is monotonous I spent the whole day at
work doing their thing it was so monotonous monotonous an
interesting something that was slow and boring it was or is monotonous lackluster it is an interesting word
Thank You Alan gear that’s very kind of you to say
did I see Pedro on the live chat earlier I I thought I saw Pedro earlier but I
haven’t seen him since but I did see Pedro Belmont earlier but I think he
might have gone I think this is one of the most useful things of the live
stream we don’t have too much time to think we have to write fast like a real
conversation yes I think so well that’s one of the things why that I
enjoy I enjoy doing this live because it’s spontaneous so if I make a mistake
if I get things wrong some people say that doing live streams is very
dangerous because you might make a mistake or have an accident
who knows today might be the day hi Lee Kwang says I don’t like Star Wars
because it’s uninspiring and looks like old films from the 1920s oh I see okay
then interesting opinion thank you very much
I’m lesser my four-year-old nephew is watching the live stream with me now and
he finds it so tedious I don’t know what to say to that I really don’t know what to say to that I
feel like I want to change the subject a little bit thank you very much
– I’m yeah CEA’s four-year-old nephew who thinks that this is tedious sorry
about that I will try to make it more exciting next
week maybe because christmas is coming are you excited
maybe you would like to see some snow perhaps that is what you want shall we
have a little bit of snow in the studio through the magic of special effects ah
look it’s snowing it’s snowing in the studio how is that even possible
I don’t know I know what would make it even better and that would be to have
some jingle bells this mist is coming are you excited I’m
very excited because it’s next week okay enough of that enough of that okay I
hope you enjoyed that bye bye snow hello also to Rolfie again monotonous is
a great word I think so I think monotonous is an amazing word here’s
another word that is interesting when we are talking about things that are boring
dreary something that is dreary a dreary thing maybe you had to spend all day in
the house because it was raining you might say that you had a dreary day I
couldn’t even go outside yesterday the weather was terrible it was such a
dreary day so if the weather is bad maybe it’s dull maybe it is raining we
can say that you have a dreary day you can describe the weather as dreary
boring uninteresting high n Den fam hello to you hello to you watching in I
think you might be in Vietnam hello Vietnam hello also to Finland hello to
Finland thini anyhow ER hello to you as well thank you for joining me
yes if you have a dreary day it means dull uninteresting boring rhs my
four-year-old cat is watching the live stream with me now and he also finds it
so tedious as well he also finds it tedious well I only have one thing to
say to your cat so they’re I hope your cat has run away
now from the computer you make
live-streaming look like it is very easy and simple
you are very spontaneous this is not easy to do this might be the hardest
thing that anyone will have to do in their lives stand in front of a camera
talking live to the world here’s another one routine now this is an interesting
word because it can be used in more than one way so a routine is something that
you do on a regular basis maybe a series of things that you do for example you
might have your morning routine when you wake up in the morning you do certain
things every morning you have your morning routine however something can
also be described as routine something that is boring to do because you do it
every day can be routine it is a routine day everything is expected there are no
surprises if he is very routine something that is tedious to do might be
described as routine we could also use this word as well average an average day
how was your day today was it interesting was it exciting no it was
average I had an average day it wasn’t interesting it wasn’t really boring
it was just average nothing special nothing special talking of which nothing
special so if something is a interesting tedious boring you can
describe it as being nothing special so today’s lesson was very boring mr.
Duncan it was nothing special nothing interesting happened we can say that it
was nothing special so to describe something that is not interesting we can
say it was nothing special you might go to a restaurant for a meal and the food
is it very nice it is ok you can eat it however it was nothing special so yes we
went to the new restaurant last night but to be honest with you the food it
was nothing special nothing special the morning routine I hate the morning
routine I hate waking up in the morning getting out of bed going into the
bathroom having to wash having to clean my teeth having to brush my hair having
to put my clothes on it’s so boring so tedious Hassan says Bill Gates once said
that average is for the weak I’m not sure if I agree with that
Belarusian says I have a routine every Wednesday Friday and Sunday I wonder
what that could be I wonder something that is not
interesting something that is dull might be described as bland
oh so again maybe a word that you’ve never heard before so if something is
bland we can say that it is uninteresting it makes no impact we have
no interest in it so maybe food can taste bland very uninteresting
it has no effect it makes no impression
it is very bland so something you taste can be bland so you can have bland food
something that is completely uninteresting is bland bland so maybe
you have never seen this word before maybe it’s the first time that you’ve
seen this particular word you might describe today certainly the weather
outside you might describe it as gray gray if something is gray it means it’s
not really interesting it’s gray so you might describe today’s weather if we
look outside it is a little bit grey outside the weather is grey so that’s
the view right now outside the window so you might say that today’s weather is a
little bit gray a little bit boring and uninteresting because there’s no color
so it is a very gray day dull gray an interesting Rolfie says is the word lame
related to something boring yes it is so maybe something that you are watching
something that you are viewing something that isn’t interesting so you are
watching it but it isn’t very interesting it is a little bit lame so I
must be honest with you I didn’t enjoy the new Star Wars film I found the story
to be very lame an interesting tedious boring another word we can use is flat
something is reflect maybe you listen to a piece of
music being performed by an orchestra however they are not playing very well
it was all a little bit flat there was no atmosphere there was no
excitement everything was flat dull boring tedious forgettable something that is not
interesting can be forgettable something that you see or hear but instantly you
forget about it because it’s so uninteresting
it’s so boring it is forgettable a forgettable song a forgettable movie oh
that new Star Wars movie it is so forgettable something that makes no
impact it leaves no impression on you it is forgettable
it is uninteresting it is not interesting at all lame means something
is boring yes lame something that is boring or maybe something that is not
cool as well so maybe a person who wears clothing that is no longer fashionable
might also be described as lame X arrow says is supercalifragilistic
expialidocious a real word no it isn’t it is a made-up word
and it was used in the movie Mary Poppins Oh supercalifragilistic expialidocious even
though the sound of it is something quite precocious supercalifragilistic expialidocious so
now it is not a real word it is made up pappu says change your show really are
you talking to me maybe UK Lili noob I love your name by
the way bland just refers to food quite often
yes so something that has no effect or no impact we often describe food that
has no taste as bland but also anything that has no color or maybe something
that you look at and maybe it is very del not interesting maybe there is no
color we can say that it looks bland so bland
can be appearance the appearance of something and also the taste of
something a little bland it looks bland it tastes bland I hope that helps you
very much hello Delina hello Delino I’m not going to try and
pronounce your second name because I will probably get it wrong finally
before I go we have one final word one final word before I go something that is
not interesting something that leaves you feeling bored can be described as
dull as dishwater if something is as dull as dishwater it means that it’s not
interesting at all we often use this in British English to describe something
that we’ve watched or listened to something that we have been bored with
something that has made us feel bored we can say that it is as der
as dishwater dishwater is what you have left after you have washed your dishes
so all the water is cloudy and dirty it is as dull as dishwater that’s it it’s

  3. Hello Mr. Duncan! I have been watching your videos for many many years and I just wanted to do something which definitely has been highly overdue for quite some time. I want to say thank you for all your inspiring lessons and your unique way of teaching English. If it hadn't been for you, my level of English would never be as good as it is today. Please keep it up! You are the best! A big hello from central Germany!

  4. Monotonous. The word itself has a sort of 'monotonous' sound, so it describes well its meaning. I'm not saying with that that it is an uninteresting word; in fact it sounds beautiful, at least to me.

  5. Hello mr duncan, I love that expression you told us as it describes someone's feelings and emotions very well..learning english with your live streams is not a tedious task and now mostly words connected to boring in my mind.stay blessed from karachi, Pakistan
