Apple CEO Tim Cook on Collaboration

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Collaboration

– What qualities do you
look for in terms of what you think will produce
effective collaboration and what’s your role as CEO in fostering that kind of collaboration? – You look for people that, are not political. People that are not bureaucrats. People that really don’t
care who gets credit. People that are, can privately celebrate the achievement, but not care if their name
is the one in the lights. You know, there are greater
reasons to do things. You look for wicked smart people. You look for people who appreciate different points of view. You look for people that care about that they have an idea at 11 at night and they wanna call and
talk to you about it because they’re so excited about it and they wanna push the idea further and that they believe that somebody can help them
push the idea another step, instead of them doing
everything themselves. I’ve never met anyone at least in my life, maybe they exist, that could do something so incredible by themselves. You know, in companies
with global footprints in our world, in Apple’s world, the reason Apple is special is that we focus on hardware,
software and services. And the magic happens where
those three come together. And so it’s unlikely that somebody that’s
focused on one of those in and of themselves can come up with magic. And so you want people collaborating in such a way that you
can produce these things that can’t be produced otherwise. And you want people to believe in that.

  1. 0:37 yet Steve Jobs put his name on tons of patents of things he had not a clue how to build, nor understood how it works. He just "liked it". So yeah – like Cook to follow in Steve Job's BS.

1:57 The reason Apple is special – its like scientology where it sells "belonging" to a group where no function or talent is needed. Its just a fashion without function.

I mean for a business class its great. A prime example of selling ice to an Eskimo. If you can do it, more power to you.

  2. Well said!..Discussing ideas in teams is a source of joy..Realizing fine tuned ideas also takes team work…CMMi-5 companies are systems & process driven…So it is imperative to have collaborative teams…I really liked what you openly shared about taking credit, being non bureaucratic & so on..

  4. i am not comparing him with Steve, i Just donยดt like him.. he is a wrong slow talking person and makes it boring to listen to..

  5. that is complete bullshit from tim cook. IF HE CAN FIND MORE THAN 5 EMPLOYEES WHO WOULD NOT TAKE CREDIT, PIGS WILL FLY. Fucking nonsense.

  6. Rubbish talk. Steve jobs does not need collaboration. (he does not need to share idea, or perhaps very few) He simply talks it, u simply do it. that's how apple is special, because there is genius out there, like Steve jobs, like me.

  7. Poor collaboration between the software and design teams at apple have caused iOS to look out of date. Now that they have improved collaboration with Jony Ive heading human interface design, I think we'll see how important that collaboration was.

  8. Tim Cook will never be like Steve Jobs but i believe him! He will bring Apple to the top again pretty soon! :))

  9. if it wasn't jobs. Apple won't achieve this kind of achievement as ppl can see today. where everyone was crazed about having and product from Apple. Not anymore since jobs left. Not anymore because Cook you r really an idiot….

  10. Wow – 2013, and 2 guys (Tim Cook & Bill Boulding) running 2 organizations (Apple & Duke) that all claim to be concerned with social benefit, and certainly have plenty of capability to exact social benefit, and they're sitting there with a disposable plastic water bottle – which everyone now knows is of huge social detriment in the world.

Amazingly reprehensible if Apple and/or Duke are selling or in any way providing disposable plastic water bottles anywhere on their campuses or workplaces!!!

  11. According to Tim's statement, Jobs would never be hired. "People who really don't care who gets credit but will call in the middle of the night for an idea"? Apple is going down slowly. Its a shame, but true!

  12. This comment section is just a pit of people criticizing Tim Cook in a non-advantageous way and its quite silly. I have seen civil conversation on YouTube has somewhat taken it's leave a long time ago. For example, one of these comments are "he's just as bad as Obama", now I am sure it is a joke but upon thinking about it more I don't think it is – you surely wouldn't take the time to compare a former president of the United States to a very successful CEO working in the Information Technology sector right?
