Skipping

Hey guys,
Things are a little quiet here at the moment as I am waiting on some interviews and images to come in so I thought I’d post up a little video that was made about 2 years ago after a striking session for some of the juniors I work with at my academy who were looking to develop their skipping for conditioning.
Like all the old school training modalities there is not much that can match skipping for all round fitness.
How many of you use it in your conditioning programme?
Enjoy!
Dave

Stretches for the Guard

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an art/sport characterised by ground fighting. More so than just being the most effective and efficient sport for groundwork, BJJ has it very own peculiar and largely unique positions to launch techniques from.

According to wikipedia: whilst “in the Guard, the practitioner is on their back controlling an opponent with their legs. The practitioner pushes and pulls with the thighs or feet to upset the balance and limit the movements of their opponent. …

Conditioning: ice recovery

By David Webb, 26 August 2009
As a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu player or a Judoka (recreational or high level performer) I am sure at some point or most of the time you feel the stresses and strains of training. Whether your frequency of training is once, twice a day or simply 2-3 sessions per week need not be brought into the equation here as I am sure that through the rigours of any session and the technical aspects of gripping, drilling, stretching and general randori/rolling take their respective toll on you …

Conditioning: neck strength

By David Webb, uploaded 26 August 2009
The ‘wrestlers bridge’: 8 bodyweight progressions.
Competing in any grappling sport be it Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Cambo and even the components that make up a sport like mixed martial arts requires the athlete to be conditioned from head to toe, quite literally. With grappling encompassing a whole plethora of strategies/tactics to beat an opponent conditioning the body in all areas becomes a major concern. Flexibility and agility that is akin to a gymnasts, strength and power close to that of an Olympic weightlifter or international …
